Juniper with Berries
Juniper trees are found in lower regions.  They dot the landscape along most highways.  The berries add a wonderful touch of color and many animals use them for food.  The scent of juniper, to me, is the scent of Christmas.

Desert Willow
Desert Willow trees grow in warmer regions of our state.  The blooms range from light pink to almost fuchsia.  I’ve seen willows thrive where they receive no water other than the precious rainfall.  It is amazing to me that they can continue to provide such beauty.

Blue Spruce
Blue spruce trees are steady and beautiful with their branches of blue-green.  We find them in the high mountains where the air is so fresh it often takes away our breath.

Aspen
Aspen grow in the mountains adding beauty to every season.  In summer the leaves are a tender, lush green.  In autumn they are a rainbow of gold.  And in winter the shadow of branches can turn to lace on the snow.

Pinons
Pinon trees are a large part of our landscape.  They produce nuts, it is rumored, only once in seven years.  The colors in the hulls are lovely, rich shades of brown.  I imagine what these nuts meant to the early people of New Mexico.
